Respecting Nature: Harvesting with Intention
At Timber & Tallow, every herb we gather, every plant we touch, is done with deep respect for the land that sustains us.
Our philosophy is simple: only take what is needed, and always give back.
We live by the rhythms of the seasons here on our off-grid regenerative ranch in BC. The forest and fields are our teachers. Each bloom and bud offers medicine — but only if we listen closely. In a world driven by excess, we return to the old ways: harvesting with care, in small batches, guided by intuition and gratitude.
🌸 How We Harvest:
-
We wait for abundance. Some years the plants speak loudly — other years, they ask to be left alone.
- We take no more than we need. Often just a basketful, leaving plenty for the pollinators, wildlife, and future seasons.
- We offer thanks. A soft word, a quiet song, or a moment of stillness — a small gesture of reverence for all that’s been given.
- We follow nature’s lead. The land is never bare in the wild. Even in the quietest seasons, it’s cloaked in moss, fallen leaves, or wild grasses. We harvest with that same awareness — never stripping a patch bare, always leaving the forest floor full of life.
🌿 Why It Matters:
When we harvest mindfully, we protect the biodiversity of our ecosystems. We honour Indigenous knowledge systems. We ensure that these healing plants are here for generations to come.
This is more than just sustainability.
It’s a way of life.
